Craig Rainey '89

Biography

Craig Rainey '89 is set to enter his 33rd season at the helm of the Adrian College NCAA baseball team in 2026. Under Rainey's leadership, the Bulldogs' baseball program has risen to national prominence and has become a perennial contender in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). In the summer of 2022, Rainey was promoted to Athletic Director while still serving as the head NCAA baseball coach. In 2021, Adrian captured its twelfth consecutive MIAA regular-season crown en route to the eighth tournament title in program history. The team posted a 37-10 overall record, tying the mark for the most wins in a single season which was previously set in 2012 and matched in 2019. The Bulldogs carried that momentum straight into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament where they captured the program's second ticket to the NCAA Division III World Series, both under Rainey's tenure. For his efforts, Rainey was awarded the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Division III Regional Coach of the Year award, the second such honor of his career (2008). Additionally, he would secure his 700th-career coaching victory on March 12, 2021. Prior to being hired as the Bulldogs' head coach, Rainey served as the assistant baseball coach under former athletic director and Bulldog Hall of Fame member Henry Mensing.
