Biography

Kelsey Usefara, a native Pennsylvanian who has reached the highest levels in her sport as both an athlete and a coach, was named head coach of the Bucknell field hockey program on Feb 22, 2022. In her four seasons, Usefara has won 31 games and earned a bid to the Patriot League Tournament all four years, firmly establishing the program among the conference's finest. The team's record has improved from 5-13 in her first season (2022) to 10-7 (2025) while posting a conference record of 14-10. Individual players have shined under Usefara. Lily Neilson became a two-time All-American, three-time First Team All-Patriot League and the first conference player to win Patriot League Player of the Year three times. Neilson graduated from Bucknell as the program's record holder in goals (60) and points (126). Defender Kira Leclercq earned four All-Patriot League honors - three First Team laurels - and became the first Bison to win Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year twice. She also became the fourth Bison ever to receive All-American honors when she made the third team in 2025. Overall, Bucknell has won five major Patriot League awards, notched eight PL First Team and nine PL Second Team honors, earned three All-American laurels, seven All-Region recipients, and three All-ECAC citations under Usefara.
