Calvin University Men's Lacrosse

Dave Hoger is in his 10th year as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Calvin University, leading the program into its 13th year as a varsity sport. Prior to arriving at Calvin, Hoger served as the defensive coordinator for Frostburg State University (Md.) men's lacrosse team, helping the Bobcats post a 15-4 record and earn a trip to the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals. Before Frostburg, he spent three years as an assistant coach at his alma mater Eastern University (Pa.), working with goalies and assisting with defense while helping Eastern to three MAC Freedom Conference Championships and two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. As a student-athlete at Eastern, Hoger graduated with a degree in mathematics and was a four-year goalie for the Eagles, serving as team captain his senior year in 2012 and leading them to their first-ever conference championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.

Came to Calvin as an assistant for men's lacrosse starting in the 2021 season. Played collegiate lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University as a defenseman, where he was part of two NCAA National Championship teams in 1978 and 1979. After graduation from Johns Hopkins, he coached lacrosse at Randolph Macon College, Loyola University (Baltimore) and Princeton University. Worked for 29 years at Steelcase, where he served in various leadership positions in the United States and Europe.

Opal comes to Calvin from southeastern Wisconsin where he served as a club men's lacrosse coach for the past five years. He also previously served as the offensive
