Alan Connie

Biography

Alan Connie was named the Big South Conference Coach of the Year a record 33 times -- 13 in cross country, 10 in indoor track and field and 10 in outdoor track and field. Connie has received the triple crown for Coach of the Year four times in his career, including the 2003-04, 2005-06, 2008-09 and most recently the 2013-14 seasons. In 2014 and 2016, Connie was elected into the George F. "Buddy" Sasser Athletic Hall of Fame at Coastal and the Big South Conference Hall of Fame respectively. Over his tenure, Connie built the women's cross country program into the most successful program in the Big South Conference with 13 Big South Conference Championships, 85 All-Conference selections, 15 individual champions named Big South's Runner of the Year, 17 NCAA All-Southeast Region selections, nine NCAA National Championship qualifiers and two NCAA All-Americans. In track and field, Connie coached athletes to 10 All-American honors, 91 Big South Indoor Champions, 115 Big South Outdoor Champions, and 543 combined indoor and outdoor All-Conference selections. Notable athletes include Amber Campbell, a member of the USA Olympic Team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, and a five-time All-America selection at Coastal Carolina. Before coming to Coastal Carolina, Connie led the North Myrtle Beach High School boys' cross country team to two state titles and guided the girls' track and field program to two state titles and three state runner-up finishes, compiling a 169-2-
