Head Coach
Zoe Almquist was hired as head coach of the Davidson field hockey program in March, 2019 and enters her seventh season in 2025. In 2024, Almquist's Wildcats won seven games for the second straight year and posted the program's best record (7-8) since 2011. They also won three Atlantic 10 games for the first time since 2015. In 2023, the Wildcats scored 39 goals (most since 2016) and allowed 43 goals (fewest since 2018), among other strides, while reaching the seven-win mark for the first time since 2015. Almquist is a former standout player at Northwestern University, where she also spent five seasons as an assistant coach. The head coaching job is her first at the college level. As an assistant at Northwestern, Almquist helped the Wildcats to a 72-33 record, a Big Ten regular season championship (2013), the program's first Big Ten Tournament title (2014) and an NCAA postseason bid (2014). She coached five All-Americans.

Assistant Coach
Anna Smarrelli joined Davidson field hockey coaching staff as an assistant coach in July, 2024. Smarrelli came to Davidson from her alma mater, Appalachian State, where she played five seasons and most recently served as an academic advisor to student-athletes. A native of Mt. Airy, Md., Smarrelli made 79 starts in the Mountaineer midfield and scored 15 goals. As a graduate student in 2022, she scored nine goals, and in 2021, she scored the go-ahead goal in a 6-3 home win over Davidson. A two-year team captain, Smarrelli was a First-Team All-MAC selection and a First-Team All-MAC Tournament pick. She was a three-time MAC All-Academic Team honoree and was a member of the NFCA National Academic Squad throughout her career. Smarrelli earned two degrees from Appalachian, including her undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education (K-12) in 2022. She completed her master's degree in Higher Education in 2024.

Assistant Coach
Hamzah Hashmi, a U.S. Men's National Team goalkeeper, joined the Davidson field hockey staff as an assistant coach in August, 2024. Hashmi has been a USA Field Hockey Nexus coach since 2020, and he spent the 2023 season as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont. Hashmi has climbed the ladder with USA Field Hockey, serving as the U.S. National Team goalkeeper since 2021. He also played for the Under-21 Junior National Team from 2011 to 2017 and was on the Under-18 Junior National Team in 2011. In his playing career, Hashmi has competed in the Hockey5s World Cup (2024), the Three Nations Tournament (2023), the Four Nations Cup (2022, 2023) and the Pan-American Cup (2022). He was also a Sydney Premier League First Team pick in 2017-18 while at the University of New South Wales. In coaching, beginning in 2019, Hashmi spent four years at Harvard-Westlake School in California, where he served as the junior varsity head coach.

Assistant Coach
Hannah Jarvie joined the Davidson field hockey program as an assistant coach in late July, 2024. She arrived at Davidson after a successful playing career at Michigan State. Jarvie played for the Spartans, of the perennially strong Big Ten Conference, from 2019-23. A native of Saline, Mich., she served as a team captain her senior year. At Michigan State, Jarvie played in 69 career games, with 38 starts, and she totaled 17 points, comprised of seven goals and three assists. Jarvie was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and three-time selection to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. She won the Spartans' Most Improved Player Award in 2021, and in 2022, was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and ranked third on the team with 10 points. She was a Preseason All-Big Ten pick her last two seasons. A Communication major, Jarvie graduated in December, 2023 and then worked with the Pinnacle Field Hockey Club.
