Eastern Illinois University Men's Cross Country

Riley McInerney was hired as Eastern Illinois University Assistant Track Coach and Cross Country Coach in January 2025. He is a former cross country and track athlete who ran at Eastern Illinois, earning 13 All-OVC honors and OVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition, along with All-Midwest Region status in cross country and NCAA West Regional appearances in outdoor track. He ran professionally for two years with New England Distance/Rhode Island Track Club. Prior to joining EIU, McInerney served as Assistant Coach at Indiana State for two seasons (2022-24), where he helped coach nine Missouri Valley Conference champions in indoor and outdoor track and recruited and coached 30 top ten school performances. He also has high school coaching experience as an assistant coach at McHenry High School in 2017. McInerney earned his Bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois in 2017 and is a native of Charleston, Illinois. His father is former seven-time OVC Coach of the Year John McInerney.
