Fairmont State University Baseball

Matt Yurish was named as the university's head baseball coach on May 24, 2021. Yurish enters his fifth year as head baseball coach of the Fighting Falcons in 2026. In 2025, the Falcons had a historic season posting a 28-28 record and going 17-11 in MEC games, making it to the MEC Tournament Championship game and the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the first time in program history. Prior to coaching at Fairmont State, Yurish was a four-year standout pitcher for West Virginia University (2005-2008), compiling a 17-12 record with a 4.40 ERA and leading the Mountaineers in strikeouts in each of his last three seasons. He ranks in the top-10 in four WVU baseball history categories and was named National Pitcher of the Week on April 10, 2006. Yurish also played professionally with the Washington Wild Things in the Frontier League. Before joining Fairmont State, he served as head coach at Alderson Broaddus University (2017-2021) and assistant baseball coach/pitching coach (2014-2016), leading the Battlers to multiple 20-win seasons, postseason appearances, and coaching 19 all-conference standouts. Yurish earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology from WVU in 2008 and a Master's of Arts in Sport and Fitness from the University of Central Florida in 2012.
