Biography

Heisman Trophy winner and seven-year National Football League veteran Chris Weinke is in his fourth year as Georgia Tech's quarterbacks coach, his third year as the Yellow Jackets' co-offensive coordinator and his second year as Tech's assistant head coach. Over the last two seasons, Weinke has overseen the development of Haynes King into one of the nation's top quarterbacks. In his first season under Weinke's tutelage in 2023, King had one of the most prolific seasons by a quarterback in Georgia Tech history, with the sophomore throwing for 2,842 yards, 27 touchdowns and 226 completions. King's 3,729 yards of total offense in 2023 were also the second-most in school history and he was one of only two Power Five players with at least 2,800 passing yards, 700 rushing yards, 25 touchdown passes and 10 touchdown runs in '23. Despite sustaining an injury in 2024, King continued his meteoric rise under Weinke, breaking ACC and Georgia Tech all-time records by completing 72.9% of his passes while throwing just two interceptions on the season. Under Weinke's watch, true freshman Aaron Philo also established himself as a prolific signal-caller. Weinke won the 2000 Heisman Trophy as a quarterback at Florida State and led the Seminoles to a national championship in 1999.
