Peter Toner

Biography

Peter Toner, a Springfield College graduate, is the head men's lacrosse coach at Gettysburg College, a position he has held since the 2022 season. Prior to returning to Division III, Toner spent 11 years at Penn State University, including eight years as associate head coach, where he served as recruiting coordinator and defensive coach. During his tenure at Penn State, the Nittany Lions achieved unprecedented success, including winning the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the first time in 2019, posting their first-ever victory over Maryland, and advancing to the NCAA semifinals. For his contributions, Toner was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association in 2019. Before Penn State, he spent three seasons as associate head coach at Bryant University, helping guide the Bulldogs through their transition to Division I competition. Toner was also the head coach at Wheaton College from 2006-2007. As a player at Springfield, he contributed to three NCAA playoff appearances, served as team captain twice, and earned All-American honors. He holds a master's degree in physical education from Springfield College.
