Indiana University-Bloomington Men's Golf

Mike Mayer is in his 29th season at the helm of the Indiana men’s golf program. He has led the Hoosiers and an NCAA Regional appearances in 13 seasons. He has propelled Indiana golf to the top of the Big Ten Conference and numerous NCAA postseason appearances while also building the program into one of the nation’s best in the classroom. The men’s golf team has posted a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate score of 1000 in each of the last 16 years and 17 of the last 18 years. In his 28 seasons, he has had 20 players receive All-Big Ten honors, including four-time honoree Jorge Campillo (2006-09) and three-time recipient Jeff Overton (2002, 04-05). The 2025-26 season started with a third-place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational, but an injury to Clay Merchent, the team’s low scorer of the season, plagued the Hoosiers. Indiana earned three additional top-10 tournament finishes but ultimately fell short of the goal of making an NCAA Regional. The return of All-Big Ten Second Team selection Clay Merchent helped the 2024-25 Hoosiers earn four top-5 finishes and a victory in the Purdue Fall Invitational. Merchent, the team’s low scorer of the season at 71.58, was an at-large selection to the NCAA Urbana Regional. IU finished eighth in the expanded Big Ten Championships. Brian Muehlhaus is a native of Downers Grove, Ill., and graduated from Indiana University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in history and has a master's degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan. He is in his 28th year as a teacher at Bloomington High School North. He was the head coach for the Bloomington North Girl's Golf team from 2002-2024 and the head coach of the Bloomington North Boy's Golf team from 2003-2019. He served as the volunteer assistant coach for the Indiana University Men's Golf team from 2022-2024 and then became the Director of Operations at the start of the 2024-2025 season.
