Mercer University Men's Soccer

A 26-year coaching veteran, including stops at three collegiate institutions, Brad Ruzzo was named as the head coach of the Mercer men’s soccer program on June 24, 2008. The winningest coach in program history with over 150 victories as the skipper in Macon, Ruzzo has led the Bears to seven conference championships and five NCAA Tournament berths in 17 seasons at the helm. MU has made nine appearances in conference tournament championship games under his leadership as well, while the program has also raked in 67 all-conference awards, including 34 first-team nods. A three-time conference coach of the year honoree, including twice (2014, 2018) since the Orange & Black transitioned to the Southern Conference prior to the 2014 campaign, Ruzzo has compiled 111 victories and a .563 winning percentage over the last 12 years, including eight winning campaigns across that span. MU tallied a program-best 14 victories during the 2014 season – its first as a member of the SoCon – and matched that superlative again in 2019 on the way to a league title and another NCAA Tournament berth. The Bears have been just as impressive in the classroom under Ruzzo’s leadership. A collegiate coaching veteran of 11 years, Ricky Davey enters his second season on staff and first season as the program's associate head coach in 2025. Elevated to associate head coach in March of 2025, Ricky Davey joined the Bears ahead of the 2024 campaign as the program's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In his first season on staff, Davey helped lead the Bears to a 6-5-7 record, highlighted by a win over American Athletic Conference regular season champion Memphis and a draw at third-ranked North Carolina. Under Davey's tutelage, five Bears earned all-SoCon honors, including Carlos Santamaria and Sekou Agard receiving first team honors. In December, Mercer forward Barzee Blama became the third player in program history to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft, going in the third round to Charlotte FC. Serving as the Bears' recruiting coordinator, Davey was instrumental in the signing of a 12-member signing class on National Signing Day in November of 2024. The talented class consists of six defenders, four midfielders, a forward and a goalkeeper, all hailing from the state of Georgia. Davey trekked to Macon following a four-year stint as a coach in the Atlanta United Academy program.
