Biography

Kris Shampeny is in his fourth season as head coach of the Montana State alpine program. Last winter, he helped the Bobcats to a fifth place finish at the 2024 Skiing Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo. The former Bobcat skier saw Gianluca Boehm and Kristiane Bekkestad each earn Second Team All-America honors in both slalom and giant slalom. During his tenure in Bozeman, Shampeny has guided six different skiers to 13 All-America accolades (six 1st Team, 7 2nd Team). In his first season at his alma mater, Shampeny guided the Bobcats to a ninth place national finish at Park City, Utah, and his 2023 contingent finished sixth at Lake Placid, N.Y. A former Bobcat student-athlete and past assistant World Cup technical coach with the United States Ski and Snowboard Women’s Alpine team, Shampeny, was named head alpine coach at Montana State University by MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello on July 22, 2021. Shampeny, a native of Manhattan, Mont., who was raised in the local ski community as part of the Bridger Ski Foundation program, raced for Montana State from 2010-12 under the leadership of Dan Brelsford. He also served as a student assistant at MSU- a move that proved to be the start of a successful coaching career at both the national andinternational levels.
