Taran Alvelo

Biography

Taran Alvelo enters her second year as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In her first season on the coaching staff, Alvelo helped guide the team to a 22-23-1 overall record, including an 11-13 mark in BIG EAST play. A standout student-athlete at the University of Washington from 2015-19, Alvelo was a four-time All-Pac-12 selection and a two-time All-American. She helped lead the Huskies to three Women’s College World Series berths and a national runner-up finish in 2018. Alvelo closed out her career at Washington ranked second on the program’s all-time lists in strikeouts (895) and wins (102). She is one of only three players to have recorded 300 strikeouts in a single season in Washington program history. In 2019, she was named to the All-Women’s College World Series Team and was recognized as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2016. Alvelo was a finalist for the 2018 USA Softball Player of the Year and was on the final list for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award. Alvelo joins the staff after serving as a volunteer assistant coach with Florida International University during the 2023 season where she oversaw the entire pitching staff during practices and scrimmages, as well as assisting with in-game preparation. As a volunteer with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2020, she assisted the pitching coach and helped organize practices and in-game charting.
