Biography

Danyelle Grant enters her fifth season with the Owls in 2026-27 after arriving to South Main back in May 2022. The 2025-26 season marked one of the greatest in program history, with a program-record 29 wins en route to the American Conference regular-season championship. The Owls rode a 22-game win streak, also a program record, and reached the second round of the WBIT. Center Shelby Hayes was named the American Conference Most Improved Player and was an All-Conference Third Team selection. The 2024-25 season saw the Owls advancing to the AAC Championship game in back-to-back seasons. One of Grant's positional players, Sussy Ngulefac, earned AAC All-Tournament Team honors and also secured her 1,000th career point during the tournament. The Owls capped off a historic season in 2023-24, claiming Rice Athletic's first-ever AAC title in the debut season in the conference. The Owls won four games in four days to earn Rice's fourth-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2019, where the Owls fell to then-defending national champions LSU in a hard-fought 70-60 defeat. All-Conference Third Teamer Malia Fisher was named AAC Tournament MVP while Destiny Jackson and Sussy Ngulefac were also named to the All-Tournament Team. In her first season with the Owls, Rice saw a historic start with an undefeated non-conference slate at 9-0.
