Assistant Coach
Brendan Wheeler joined the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball coaching staff in the fall of 2024 after spending the previous two years at Division II member Cal Poly Pomona. With the Broncos, Wheeler was a part of the men’s basketball staff under head coach Greg Kamansky before joining Jeff Cammon and the Gaels women’s program for the 2024-25 season. Prior to Pomona, Wheeler spent three seasons as the Director of Player Development for the men’s program at Cal Baptist University. Since beginning at CBU in July of 2019, Wheeler aided the coaching staff in recruiting, game planning, and opponent scouting, mentored student-athletes to achieve academic goals, co-directed a summer youth basketball camp, assisted team travel and executed all video operations for the program. From 2017 to 2019 Wheeler served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the NCAA Division I USC Trojans Men's Basketball program, assisting the coaching staff with opponent scouting reports, on-court player development, aiding preparation of on-campus recruiting visits, and facilitating video exchange with opponents. Prior to his arrival at USC, Wheeler spent three seasons (2014-17) as the Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at Moorpark College. During his time there, Moorpark won the Western State Conference Championship in 2016, and clinched a berth in the CCCAA Playoffs, both were firsts since 2007. Assistant Coach
Brittany Boyd-Jones brings a load of playing experience after a decorated collegiate career and six seasons in the WNBA. Jones joined the Gaels coaching staff in 2024 after two years as an assistant with Cal State East Bay. After the conclusion of her WNBA career and spending time overseas, Jones returned to Northern California and joined the coaching staff for Division II member Cal State East Bay for the 2022-23 season. Her playing career began with Cal in 2011 where she had a tremendous impact as a true freshman, being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team and earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Jones was one of only two freshmen to have ten steals in a single game and finished the season ranked 69th in the country and third in the Pac-12 with 2.54 steals per game. As a young sophomore, Jones played a pivotal role in the team’s 32-win season and helped the Bears to their first ever Final Four appearance. They would fall to Louisville in the semi-finals and Jones ended the season averaging over 12 points, four assists and five rebounds. Jones only got better as her career continued and she would have a breakout 2013-14 season, averaging a career high 14.7 points and 6.0 assists per game. She would help the Golden Bears to a 22-win season which included a first round NCAA Tournament victory over Fordham and she was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team for the second year in a row. Assistant Coach
Kevin Adams joined the Gaels staff as an assistant coach after coming over with head coach Jeff Cammon from Long Beach State in 2023. Adams spent six seasons as an assistant coach for the Beach. He joined LBSU in 2017 after serving in his second stint as the associate head coach of the women’s basketball program at Cal Poly Pomona. Adams was an integral part of the Beach women’s basketball coaching staff in assisting with on-court drills and working individually with players. While at the Beach the program went to Back-to-Back WNIT Post Season appearances and compiling 42 wins the last two season. With Adams mentoring the Beach, Tori Harris earned Big West Player of the Year and All-Big West First Team in 2022-23 while, Kristyna Jeskeova was named Best Defensive Player, Best Hustle Player and was named to the All-Defensive Team, Ma’Qhi Berry was also selected to the All-Defensive Team as well as Big West All-Second Team, while Malia Bambrick and Kianna Hamilton each earned Honorable Mention. Maddi Utti earned All-Big West First Team accolades and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2021-22, while Justina King was named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2018-19, before earning Big West Conference All-Second Team and All-Defensive Team accolades on two occasions and earning 2020-21 Big West First Team honors. Lexi Petersen joined the Saint Mary's coaching staff in 2023 after serving as an assistant coach at Seattle U from the summer of 2020 to the end of the 2022-23 season. Petersen served one season as the Redhawks Director of Basketball Operations before being promoted to assistant coach alongside Suzy Barcomb in 2020. Petersen worked with Seattle U shooting guards and prepared player personnel files for opponent scouting reports. Petersen is a 2016 graduate from the University of Oregon, where she scored 1,226 career points in a school-record 126 games. After suffering a knee injury to end her 2012-13 campaign, Petersen bounced back with a solid redshirt sophomore season, averaging 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She event set a new career high with 25 points in a win over Cal Poly. Petersen went on to average 12 points per game over her final two seasons and broke out for a career as a senior, averaging over 13 points while shooting 45% from the field. She concluded her four-year career at Oregon with a program record 126 games played and 1,226 career points. Petersen also helped lead the Ducks to 24 wins and a deep postseason run in the 2016 WNIT, falling to South Dakota in the tournament semifinals. She played professionally in Greece and Iceland for three years following her collegiate career before getting into the coaching ranks.
