Gaels women’s tennis head coach Katharina Winterhalter has named Claudia de las Heras Armenteras as the program’s new assistant coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. Armenteras joins the Gael family after a decorated collegiate career at fellow WCC member San Diego and is excited to start her coaching career here in Moraga. “I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis program. I’m convinced that my experience as a college athlete and my competitive and positive spirit will contribute to the team. Can’t wait to get started. Let’s Go Gaels!” (Armenteras). “We are thrilled to welcome Claudia to our program”, said Winterhalter. “Claudia is a former top WCC player who competed at the highest level in singles and doubles and is a true student of the game. Claudia’s passion and energy for tennis along with her experience will be invaluable for our student-athletes and the women’s tennis program” (Winterhalter). Armenteras started her collegiate career with the Toreros in 2021 where she went 22-10 in singles play for the second most wins on the team. She only got better as her career went on, helping USD to an at-large bid in 2023 where they took down 28th ranked Cal in the opening round. Armenteras competed in three NCAA Tournaments over her four years and capped off her collegiate career as the 2025 WCC Player of the Year. She went 13-9 in singles play and helped the Toreros to a share of the regular season title for the first time i
