Head Coach Todd Yelton enters his 24th year at the helm of the Samford University soccer team, having propelled the Bulldogs to national prominence. From 2014 to 2022, Yelton led the Bulldogs to an unprecedented nine-straight Southern Conference regular-season titles. The winningest coach in program history, Yelton has now led his team to 14 regular-season conference titles, eight NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference tournament championships. His career record now stands at an impressive 328-151-68, including a 288-119-64 mark with Samford. Yelton was hired as Samford's second soccer coach Jan. 11, 2002. A native of Piney Flats, Tenn., Yelton began a youth-based resurgence in the soccer program. He served as the top assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) during 2000–01, and before that served four years as head coach at Parkview High School in Atlanta, Ga., where his teams posted a 59-11-3 record and captured 4A state championships in 1997 and 1999. Yelton's first collegiate head coaching position was at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga., where he posted a 40-32-4 mark. His playing career began at Tennessee Tech University before transferring to King College (Tenn.), where he was a two-year starter on defense and earned his bachelor's degree in history in 1991.
