Ryan Donovan

Biography

Last updated on May 25, 2025 Ryan Donovan is in his 23rd season as head coach at San Diego State in 2025-26, having elevated his alma mater into a perennial contender on the national stage. Donovan has coached the Aztecs to 230 top-10 overall tournament finishes, 153 top-five performances, 42 team titles and seven NCAA championship appearances, highlighted by a fifth-place tie at nationals in 2012. During his tenure, SDSU has advanced to the NCAA regionals in 20 of 21 campaigns (2020 NCAA championships were canceled) and have also finished no worse than second at the Mountain West championships in eight of the last 15 seasons SDSU competed (2020 MW championships were canceled), winning team titles in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Under Donovan's guidance, Aztec golfers have garnered 44 all-Mountain West accolades and 22 all-region honors, while eight of his pupils have been named to 16 All-America teams. In addition, Donovan has mentored five MW player of the year winners in Justin Hastings (2025), Puwit Anupansuebsai (2020), Nahum Mendoza III (2016), J.J. Spaun (2012) and Aaron Goldberg (2008), as well five players - Harry Takis (2025), Dylan Oyama (2023), Ricky DeSantis (2014), Riccardo Michelini (2013), Matt Hoffenberg (2008) - who were each named conference freshman of the year in their respective rookie seasons.
