Ryan Whalen

Biography

Ryan Whalen enters his fourth season as an assistant coach at Seton Hall in 2025-26. He is in his second stint on staff in South Orange where he served multiple roles for the Pirates from 2010-16 under Kevin Willard. Whalen will be entering his sixth season as an assistant coach under Shaheen Holloway. When including his six years with Holloway on staff at Seton Hall from 2010-16, this will be Whalen's 11th season working alongside the Pirates' first-year head coach. Following two seasons in his first assistant coaching role at Eastern Kentucky, Whalen joined the Peacocks in 2018-19 and he helped take the program to new heights. Saint Peter's registered three-consecutive seasons with 10-plus MAAC victories (2019-22), won the 2022 MAAC Tournament championship and advanced to the Elite Eight during Whalen's tenure. With the Pirates, Whalen served in various roles. The West Long Branch,, N.J. native was the Director of Basketball Operations during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons when the Pirates won the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament. He worked his way up to DOBO after starting as the Pirates' video coordinator in 2010-11, followed by director of player development and coordinator of basketball operations. Before Seton Hall, Whalen worked in the same capacity under former Pirate head coach Kevin Willard at Iona in 2009-10.
