Guillermo Madrigal Sardinas joined Columbia as epee coach in October 2024 after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at NYU. With the Violets, he coached three Division III Athletes of the Year and 10 All-Americans. A native of Havana, Cuba, Madrigal Sardinas is one of the most accomplished epee fencers in his country's history. He competed internationally at the 2010 Senior World Fencing Championships and earned numerous medals in North America Cup competitions, Pan Am games and other international events. Madrigal Sardinas began his coaching career as an assistant for the Cuban National Fencing Team in 2008 and then served as the Puerto Rican National Coach from 2012-15 before relocating to the United States in 2016. Since then, many of Madrigal Sardinas' athletes have consistently achieved success at the national and international levels. A 2008 graduate of the University of the Superior Institute of Physical Education Manuel Fajardo (Havana, Cuba) with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, Madrigal Sardinas also went on to coach at the Fencers Club and the Fencing Sports Academy.
