In her first season at A&M, Newton helped the Aggies land the No. 20 recruiting class in the country and the No. 1 player in the state of Texas for the first time in program history. Under her assistance, the team saw two players make the SEC All-Freshman Team for the first time ever and A&M became the first 13 seed to ever make the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. Newton joined Joni Taylor in Aggieland after spending the previous seven seasons as an assistant at Georgia with Taylor. She helped the Lady Bulldogs land three top-15 recruiting classes and earn four NCAA Tournament bids. The Monroe, Louisiana, native comes from the coaching tree of Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer C. Vivian Stringer. Newton played under the legend from 2001-05 and coached on her staff from 2010-2015 at Rutgers. Newton is widely regarded as a star among today’s coaches and brings a wealth of knowledge to the court. She has coached an impressive list of 14 WNBA players and 19 all-conference selections in 13 seasons at Rutgers and Georgia.
