Since taking over as the skipper of the Red Raiders in 2013, Tadlock has built his alma mater into a national powerhouse, leading the Red Raiders to four College World Series (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019) and three Big 12 Championships (2016, 2017, 2019). A two-time National Coach of the Year, Tadlock was named head coach of his alma mater on June 8, 2012, becoming the ninth head coach in program history. He owns a collegiate career record of 908-403 in 22 years as a head coach with nine seasons at Grayson County College (435-127) and the last 13 at Texas Tech (473-276). Assistant Coach
Former Red Raider All-American first baseman Eric “Gute” Gutierrez closed his seventh season on staff at Texas Tech and his first season as an assistant coach in 2025, after being promoted from his director of operations role prior to the 2025 season. Gutierrez assumed the director of operations role in 2024 after being promoted from his role as volunteer assistant coach. Serving as the Red Raiders hitting coach in 2025 and first base coach, Gutierrez assisted a Red Raider offense that hit .287 and walked 400 times on the season. Gutierrez also helped mentor First Team All-Big 12 outfielders Logan Hughes and Damian Bravo as well as Second Team All-Big 12 first baseman Robin Villeneuve. Under the tutelage of Gutierrez, Hughes hit .327 and had a team-best 19 home runs, four triples and 13 doubles. Hughes’ 19 bombs led the Big 12 Conference during regular season play, while Bravo was one of seven players at the Power Four level to record an average of .300 or better, 10+ home runs, 15+ stolen bases, 10+ doubles and 50+ RBIs. A transfer from Tennessee, Villeneuve also shined with the assistance of Gutierrez as the first baseman hit a career-best .365 in 2025, hitting a team-best 18 doubles, 12 home runs and driving in 49 runs. In the field, Villeneuve also shined as he made just four errors and recorded a fielding percentage of .991. Assistant Coach
J-Bob Thomas completed his 13th season as the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at Texas Tech in 2025. Thomas works primarily with the Red Raider catchers and assists with the team’s hitters, and serves as the third base coach. In 2025, Thomas completed his 20th season in collegiate baseball and his 13th on head coach Tim Tadlock’s coaching staff at Texas Tech. He was named recruiting coordinator/assistant coach with the Red Raiders on June 20, 2012, less than two weeks after Tadlock was named the ninth head coach in program history. Known as a tireless worker and as one of the top recruiters in college baseball, Thomas has proven his abilities early and often throughout his career at Tech. He was recognized as the ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017 and by Perfect Game in September 2015 as one of 10 coaches nationally “who are everywhere recruiting.” Thomas has help recruit and sign 16 Freshman All-America selections and 15 total All-Americans. Throughout his time in Lubbock, the Red Raiders have had at least one player earn Freshman or regular All-American honors every season. The Red Raiders posted 45-win seasons for four consecutive years from 2016-19, combining for 183 victories over that span which is the most for Tech since 1995-98. Director of Pitching Development
Merrmian arrives in Lubbock after a decorated 20-plus year career that includes various roles with six different MLB organizations as well as multiple stops as the pitching coach at the University of Michigan and the University of Toledo. He arrives at Tech after spending the past three seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization as the pitching coach at High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery. During the 2024 season, Merriman helped the Biscuits to an 80-57 record, both the first and second half title and a trip to the Southern League Championship Series. The coach went to the Rays organization after returning to the University of Michigan where the former Central Michigan Standout served as the Wolverines Pitching coach for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. It was his third stint in Ann Arbor as the coach also served as Michigan's pitching coach for the 2011 and 2012 seasons as well as the 2001 and 2002 campaigns. Throughout his time at UofM he worked notable MLB Draft selections including 20-year MLB vet Rich Hill and former 2021 Second Round pick Steve Hajjar. After spending the 2019-2021 seasons with the Colorado Rockies organization where he served as the Rockies Pitching Coordinator and assisted with the Rockies pitching analytics, technology implementation and program development.
