BJ Johnson was hired as the wide receivers coach at TU in December 2025. Johnson spent the last three seasons at Georgia Southern University and with the Eagles, Johnson coached five all-conference selections and the 2025 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Camden Brown, who led the Georgia Southern team in receptions (63), yards (1,049), and touchdowns (14). Brown had five games with over 100 yards receiving during the 2025 campaign. The receivers for Georgia Southern recorded 2,495 yards on 190 receptions. The Eagles had three players with over 40 receptions in 2025, including two receivers with 50 or more receptions. In 2025 Marcus Sanders Jr. had 725 receiving yards and four scores, while Dalen Cobb had 471 yards on 52 receptions with three touchdowns. The Georgia Southern receivers delivered in 2024, combining for 206 receptions, 2,527 yards, and 15 touchdowns. Leading the group, Derwin Burgess Jr. posted 59 catches for 659 yards and earned honorable mention honors after the season. In 2023, Johnson helped mentor several receivers who had big years, including record-setting Khaleb Hood (101 receptions, 948 yards, five TDs) and Derwin Burgess Jr. (74 receptions, 813 yards, six TDs). The Eagle passing offense finished in the top 20 nationally in passing yards per game. Burgess Jr. went on to earn All-Sun Belt honors in 2024, while six receivers had at least 20 receptions, with Josh Dallas leading the way with six touchdown catches. Cam Haney was hired as the cornerbacks Coach at TU in January 2026. Haney joins the TU staff after spending the 2025 season at Indiana University. At Indiana, he was a Defensive Quality Control Coach that helped the Hoosiers win the NCAA National Championship, the first football championship in program history. Indiana had 19 interceptions on the season and had 50 pass breakups as a defensive unit. Prior to Indiana, Haney spent one season as a member of ETSU's coaching staff in 2024. As the defensive backs coach at ETSU, Haney guided the Bucs to five interceptions and 49 pass breakups. Cam Sims led the team with 17 pass breakups during the 2024 season. Haney went to the Bucs after spending three seasons at Murray State. During his time with the Racers, Haney coached the team's cornerbacks in 2023, which also was his first season as a full-time coach. Haney spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons as a defensive graduate assistant for Murray State. Haney's defensive backs accounted for 14 interceptions and nearly 80 pass breakups since 2021. As a player, Haney played collegiately at Utah State. He broke up 28 passes, two forced fumbles and 110 tackles in his collegiate career. In prep football, was a CIF All-State honor winner as a senior at Cathedral High School. Haney is originally from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Utah State in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in communications. Haney also earned his master's degree from Murray State in 2023.

Carter Barfield enters his second season as the Special Teams coordinator at Tulsa. He was hired in January 2025 by Head Coach Tre Lamb. Barfield coached Angus Davies to the 2025 Ray Guy Award Watch List. Davies averaged 43.5 yards per punt, the third best average in the American Conference. In week one, Davies achieved a season-long 80-yard punt against Abilene Christian, marking the fourth longest in Tulsa history and the second longest in American Conference history. This was also the longest punt of the FBS season. Under the guidance of Barfield, kicker Seth Morgan was named Lou Groza Star of the Week on Sept. 23, 2025. Morgan hit a season-high four field goals and hit an extra point, scoring 13 points on the week. He was named the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 22, 2025. Morgan made 17 field goals during his final season of collegiate football, which was tied for the seventh most by a TU kicker in a single season. Prior to coming to Tulsa, Barfield spent four seasons at Florida State University as a special teams analyst. Barfield assisted special teams coordinator John Papuchis in multiple facets during his tenure with the Seminoles. He was an essential figure in the development of former punter Alex Mastromanno and former kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, who were both named AP All-Americans in 2024. Clay Leach joined the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football program in July 2024. In his role as Director of Football Video, Leach is responsible for leading and training the team's video staff, directing game and practice film production for coaches and overseeing inventory of video equipment. Leach came to the Golden Hurricane after serving as Assistant Football Video Director with the Oklahoma Sooners. He also served as Director of Football Video for Florida Atlantic University from 2017 - 2021. Leach graduated from The University of Tennessee in 2012 with a BS in Communication. He served as a student football videographer while at UT. He completed a Masters Degree in Sport Management from East Tennessee State University in 2014. He has been a member of the Collegiate Sports Video Association since 2014.

He also helped guide Angus Davies to the longest punt in the nation during the 2025 season and onto the Ray Guy Award Watch List. At ETSU, Davenport was the Running Backs Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator. ETSU rushed for 194.2 yards per game, the most in the Southern Conference and the 19th most in the FCS, and they averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Davenport coached Bryson Irby to Second Team All-SoCon honors. Irby was ETSU's leading rusher that season, totaling 763 yards on 145 carries (5.3 avg.) and six touchdowns. Irby's rushing total ranked fourth among SoCon running backs. Irby's top game of the season came against No. 2 North Dakota State, where he rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on 15 attempts. Irby also topped the century mark rushing in a win at The Citadel in late September (126 yards). Besides Irby, Devontae Houston rushed for 648 yards, the seventh most in the SoCon. Dominique Franks enters his third season on the Tulsa coaching staff. He was elevated to Pass Game Coordinator and Nickels Coach in January 2026. He served as the cornerbacks coach during the 2025 season. During the 2024 season, Franks was promoted to serve as the cornerbacks coach. Under his guidance, Franks coached Elijah Green, who was named as a semifinalist for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, for the top defensive back in college football. Green led the American Conference in interceptions with five interceptions the seventh most in the nation during the 2025 season. Green was also named as a First Team All-Conference selection by the American Conference football coaches. Tulsa’s defense improved the passing yards allowed per game by 101.7 yards per game, the second-best pass defensive improvement from 2024 to 2025 in the FBS. Hakim Gray enters his second season as the defensive line coach after being hired at TU in December 2024. Gray coached J’Dan Burnett to American Conference Second Team honors in 2025. Burnett led the Golden Hurricane in tackles for loss (9.5) and sacks (6.5). Defensive lineman Byron Turner Jr. tallied three sacks in against Abilene Christian, becoming the first player since Ben Kopenski (11/18/23) to accomplish this feat in a single game. Gray also coached Joe Hjelle into a career season on the defensive line for TU. He had 46 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks after only having 19 tackles in his first season at Tulsa. Hjelle also had six games with five or more tackles. Gray spent the 2024 season as the assistant head coach and defensive line coach for ETSU. Gray guided Jaylen George to all-conference honors in 2024 at ETSU. The defensive lineman started every game for Gray. George totaled 33 tackles (six for loss) to go with 0.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and recovered another to go with seven quarterback hurries. His quarterback hurry total led the Bucs. George helped ETSU's defense hold opposing teams to 3.0 yards per carry in 2024, which was the team's lowest mark in a full season since 1984 (2.7). With Scelfo coaching the line, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane o-line helped Dominic Richardson become the 23rd running back in TU history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. The rushing yards per game were up by over 20 yards per game from the 2024 team as Tulsa averaged 175.5 yards rushing per game in 2025. Tulsa offensive line cleared ways for the backfield to average 4.3 yards per carry in 2025. As an offensive unit, the Golden Hurricane averaged 5.3 yards per play in 2025. Scelfo spent the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach with coach Lamb at ETSU. At ETSU, Scelfo coached Luke Smith (OL), AJ Johnson (WR), Bryson Irby (RB), and Derrell Bailey Jr (OL) to All-SoCon honors. The offensive line at ETSU paved the way to rush for 100 yards in 11 of 12 games during the 2024 season, including a season-high 308 yards in a win at The Citadel. The offensive line led the way to leading the SoCon in rushing yards (2,330) and rushing yards per game (193.2). It was the first time in school history that ETSU led the SoCon in rushing. Lento Smith Jr. made his lone interception for the Golden Hurricane against Army, which helped lead the Golden Hurricane to a comeback victory. During the 2025 season, linebacker Ray Coney became the first TU linebacker to record 100+ tackles since Justin Wright. Coney finished with 129 tackles, the sixth most in the nation. Smith Jr. was second on the team with 79 tackles and safety Zach Williams was third with 73. Reardon spent the 2024 season at ETSU with coach Lamb and was the associate head coach and defensive coordinator. Kevin Barbay was hired as the offensive coordinator at TU in January 2026. Barbay comes to Tulsa after spending the 2025 season as an offensive analyst at the University of Kentucky. Barbay went to Lexington after serving as Houston’s offensive coordinator in 2024. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State during the 2023 season. Barbay has built a reputation for crafting high-powered offenses. During a five-year span coaching at Mississippi State (2023), Appalachian State (2022), and Central Michigan (2019-21), his teams recorded 31 games with 30 or more points and 19 games with at least 500 yards of total offense. Prior he was the Director of Athletic Equipment for three years at The University of Tulsa after serving one year as the assistant director of athletic equipment. Prior to joining the TU coaching staff, Darlington spent two seasons at UIW. During the 2024 season, he was the offensive line coach, and during the 2023 season, he was the tight ends coach. Under his guidance, the UIW offensive line helped the Cardinals average 233.6 rushing yards per game. Before joining UIW, Darlington spent the 2022 season with the Florida Gators as a quality control coach. Darlington spent five seasons (2017-21) on staff at his alma mater, Oklahoma.
