He was named to the post after three seasons where he filled the jobs of assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and interim head coach. A veteran with more than 27 years of experience in four different conferences including the PAC12, BIG12, AAC, and the WAC, the Redondo Beach, California native was promoted after he led the Green Wave to the AAC Tournament Semifinals to close the 2022 campaign. Looking to continue the momentum from the 2023 season, the 2024 version of the Green Wave posted the second-best turnaround in NCAA Division 1 Baseball by winning 16 more games than the previous season which was only surpassed by Florida State who improved by 17 games. Tulane made history by winning its second-straight American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, a feat that had not been accomplished by any other program in the conference. Tulane’s run through Clearwater also extended its tournament win streak to 6 games, an AAC record, and ensured the program its’ second-straight trip to the NCAA Regionals. He returned to Tulane in the summer of 2022 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach in the fall of 2024. During Izzio’s tenure, Tulane has enjoyed sustained postseason success, advancing to the American Athletic Conference Championship Game in each of the past three seasons and capturing back-to-back conference titles in 2023 and 2024. The Green Wave also earned NCAA Regional berths in both 2023 and 2024, underscoring the program’s competitive consistency and continued growth at the national level. In the fall of 2022, Izzio was selected to participate in the prestigious Surefire Baseball Forum, a program that pairs NCAA Division I administrators with the nation’s top assistant coaches to prepare and promote the future leaders of college baseball.
