Biography

Bob Gregory has been one of the nation's top assistant coaches over a career that has spanned more than four decades, with experience at multiple prestigious programs. He has served as defensive coordinator for five different programs (Washington University, Willamette, Boise State, California, Washington) across 16 seasons, and has coached on seven teams that won conference championships and 22 that played in bowl games. A total of 46 players he coached have gone on to play in the NFL. Gregory's most recent positions include stints at Stanford (2023-24) as special teams coordinator and safeties coach, and at Washington (2014-21) where he was defensive coordinator in 2021 and interim head coach midway through the season. He mentored multiple All-Americans and award winners, including Ben Burr-Kirven (Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year), Shaq Thompson (Paul Hornung Award winner), and Dante Pettis (consensus All-American). A 1987 graduate of Washington State with a bachelor's degree in English, Gregory earned his master's degree in educational policy at Oregon and played linebacker and defensive back for the Cougars.
