Chey Cooper

Biography

A native of Chesapeake, Virginia, Cooper brought a wealth of playing and leadership experience, both in the United States and internationally. Cooper played for four years at George Mason University where he received his bachelor's degree in sport management. He additionally played for one year at Fort Valley State University where he was a first team All-SIAC selection. He was also a part of the first HBCU team to make the NCAA Tournament in 2024. After college, Cooper played overseas in the English Super League while further sharpening his technical knowledge of the game while also acquiring his master's degree in physical activity, society and health. As a coach, Cooper coached club volleyball while he was at George Mason. Cooper coached at The St. James Volleyball Club where he was the assistant coach for the U14 boys, U16 and U17 girl's teams. Many players from his teams are now playing collegiate indoor and beach volleyball. He also ran several clinics and private lessons with The St. James Volleyball Club and has worked volleyball camps at American University and the Naval Academy. Cooper is also a 2023 American Coaches Volleyball Association Diversity Award recipient. Cooper is known for his relatedness and development of players. As a former collegiate player himself, Cooper knows the process it takes to develop and continuously grow as a player. His volleyball IQ is what set him apart from other players when he was playing.
