Head Coach
Greg "Boom" May was named head women's hockey coach on March 22, 2026. He is the third head coach in the history of the program. May was the Associate Head Coach for the Minnesota women’s team since 2023. He also coached the men’s hockey team at Augsburg University for two seasons to a 41-15-2 record and two NCAA tournament berths from 2021-23 and was the director of operations for the Minnesota men’s team from 2019-21. Prior to getting into collegiate hockey, May was the boy’s hockey head coach at The Blake School and Farmington High School. May was an assistant coach on the USA Women’s U18 National Team that went 6-0 and won a gold medal at the U18 World Championships in January 2026. May coached the forwards and led the power play, as the team outscored its opponents 56-2. At Minnesota, May helped the Gophers advance to the 2025 NCAA Frozen Four and to NCAA tournament bids in 2024, 2025 and 2026. He worked with the forwards and oversaw the team’s power play, which consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation. May led the men’s team at Augsburg from 2021-23. The team played in the NCAA tournament both years and advanced to the Frozen Four in 2022. He was named the MIAC Coach of the Year in 2022 and the team won the MIAC regular season title in 2022 and the MIAC tournament championship in 2023. General Manager / Assistant Coach
Jess Scott was promoted to General Manager in August 2025, making her the first general manager with recruiting/coaching abilities in NCAA women’s college hockey history. Scott was named an assistant coach in September 2022 after joining the Gopher women’s hockey staff as the program’s director of operations in July 2019. Scott has helped lead Minnesota to two Frozen Four appearances and one WCHA tournament title. Scott joined Gopher Athletics after most recently spending three years as the head coach of the girls’ hockey program at Wayzata High School. She was named the Class AA head coach of the year in 2018 and received back-to-back Section 6AA coach of the year honors in 2018 and 2019. She was elected as president of the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association in February 2014 and served in the role until May 2018. After joining the Gophers, Scott served as the Director of Hockey Operations for the United States U18 Women’s National Team that won silver at the 2022 IIHF World Championships in Madison, Wis., and bronze at the 2023 tournament in Ostersund, Sweden. Prior to her time with the Trojans, Scott served as the girls’ hockey head coach at her alma mater Coon Rapids High School for five years. Her coaching experience also includes four years as an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas, her collegiate alma mater.
