John David Baker returned to Oxford in December 2025 for his second stint with the Rebels and currently serves as offensive coordinator. Baker served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the last two seasons (2024-25) at East Carolina. In his second full year coordinating the ECU offense, Baker orchestrated a Pirate offense that ranked No. 15 in total offense (460.4 yards per game), and No. 31 in scoring offense (32.7 points per game). He helped Katin Houser blossom into one of the American’s elite quarterbacks under Baker’s direction, completing 66 percent of his passes for 3,300 yards, 19 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, while adding nine rushing touchdowns in 2025. The 2024 Broyles Award Nominee oversaw an offensive in his first year at East Carolina that stood among the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) leaders (Top 30) in five categories including 3rd down conversion percentage (24th/0.451), total offense per game (24th/436.4 ypg), passing yards per completion (26th/13.30) and passing offense (27th/264.0 pg). In 2024, he helped the Pirates (8-5, 5-3 AAC) to five wins over a six-game span which included a 26-21 come from behind victory over NC State in the 2024 Go Bowling Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md. On Dec. 28, 2024. The win was the first over a Power 4 team since 2018, when ECU topped North Carolina, 41-19.
