Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach
Cassandra Sherman was named as the third head coach in the history of UNE women's ice hockey in August 2023. In her first two collegiate head coaching campaigns, the Nor'easters qualified for the conference championship as the third seed and made the semifinals. The 13-13-1 overall ledger in 2024-25 was the program's first season at at least .500 since 2019-20. Before UNE, Sherman was in Florida serving as coach of multiple teams within the Tampa Jr. Lightning club organization, and was the Co-Director of Youth Hockey at the Palm Beach Skate Zone prior to that. No stranger to the Maine ice hockey scene, Sherman spent four seasons (2017-21) as assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Southern Maine. The Huskies increased overall and New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) win totals during each full campaign, including a 12-13-2 mark (9-7-0 NEHC) in 2019-20 that ended in the semifinals of the league postseason championship. In the year after graduating from USM (2016-17), she played professionally for Dusseldorf in Germany's top women's hockey league and helped the squad to the division title, totaling seven goals and nine assists over 13 contests. Sherman returned stateside in 2017-18 and played for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Assistant Women's Ice Hockey Coach
Katie Sonntag joined UNE ahead of the 2024-25 campaign as the first full-time assistant coach of the women's ice hockey program. She came to Biddeford following one year of playing professionally in Switzerland with the Hockey Club Davos in the Post Finance Women's League. Sonntag was an assistant captain for the club, and totaled six goals and three assists over 28 contests. Collegiately, Sonntag competed from 2018-22 at Union College [NCAA I] and in 2022-23 at Stonehill College [NCAA I]. At Union, while earning a bachelor's degree in physics, she appeared in 97 games across three seasons, notching seven goals and 10 assists. Then, during the Skyhawks' inaugural season, Sonntag served as captain and amassed 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 31 outings. She graduated from Stonehill in 2023 with a master's degree in data analytics.

Bergstrom was a four-year starter between the pipes at the University of Southern Maine [NCAA III] from 2011-15 -- three of those seasons were alongside current UNE head coach, Cassandra Sherman. Over 80 career games, Bergstrom backstopped 29 wins and nine ties, while posting a 2.50 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
