University of Rhode Island Men's Track & Field

Trent Baltzell was named head coach for the men's track & field and cross country programs at Rhode Island in July 2021. Since taking over, Baltzell has led the Rams to six Atlantic 10 Track & Field titles, three New England Track & Field Championships, and a New England Cross Country Championship. In 2024, he led Rhode Island to their first-ever IC4A title, sweeping indoor postseason championships. Baltzell was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2022, 2023, and 2024. A former two-time team captain and five-time individual Atlantic 10 champion for the Rams, Baltzell served as an assistant coach for URI starting in October 2019 before his promotion. Prior to returning to Rhode Island, he was head coach at Division II Assumption University from 2017-2019, earning 2019 Division II Northeast Cross Country Coach of the Year honors. As a student-athlete at Rhode Island, Baltzell still holds the all-time record in the decathlon and won five individual A-10 titles, including both heptathlon and decathlon titles in 2013 and 2014. He was part of seven A-10 team titles and two New England titles during his career. Baltzell earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Rhode Island in 2014.
