Jack Cooper

Biography

Jack Cooper was named the Badgers' safeties coach in January 2024 after two seasons on Wisconsin's defensive staff. He joined Wisconsin in the spring of 2023 as the senior defensive analyst and was elevated to the Badgers' assistant defensive backs coach prior to the 2024 season. During his time at Wisconsin, Cooper has worked closely with the Badger secondary and safeties unit. He played an important role in helping safety Hunter Wohler, who flourished during 2023 and 2024, leading the Badgers in tackles in both seasons. Prior to his time at Wisconsin, Cooper served as the Defensive Coordinator at Rhode Island. In 2022, Cooper's defense held top-25 national rankings in sacks (15th), Def. TD’s (10th) and passing TD’s allowed (22nd). In the secondary, which was the position that he coached, Cooper led Jordan Jones to CAA Football 1st Team All-Conference Honors. Jordan Jones and Antonio Carter both ranked in the nation's top-50 in passes defended as both starting corners. Linebackers Jake Fire and Evan Stewart also earned All-Conference honors under Cooper. In 2021, Cooper led a resurgent defensive effort for Rhode Island. The Rams ranked in the Top 50 in points allowed per game (25.36/49th); yards allowed per play (5.17/35th), yards allowed per pass attempt (6.58/29th); yards allowed per pass completion (11.64/40th); defensive pass efficiency (119.39/28th); and sacks per game (2.45/33rd).
