He also spent the 2022–23 season as a graduate assistant at Missouri, working directly under Pingeton. A native of Arkansas, Johnston began his career as a student manager and practice player for the Razorbacks from 2018–22. His experience includes supporting the development of multiple All-Americans, All-Conference honorees, and SEC All-Freshman Team selections. During his time in the SEC, Johnston worked with standout players such as Chelsea Dungee, Destiny Slocum, Amber Ramirez, and Hayley Frank, among others.
