Head Coach
Ian Sawtelle enters his 7th season as a coach (throwing events) of the Spartan men's and women's track & field programs and his first as Head Coach. Under Sawtelle, Castleton throwers have broken 21 indoor and outdoor records, 8 have earned 13 All-LEC accolades, 2 have received All-New England Athlete designation, 4 have been named all LEC rookie athlete, 5 throwers have earned All USTFCCCA Regional Honors and 8 have earned all LEC academic honors and 1 second team All-American. Sawtelle earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2005. While at SUNY Plattsburgh, he competed in both the shotput and discus. In 2005 Coach Sawtelle earned all ECAC honors in the discus. He now holds a USATF level 1 certification. Sawtelle is an Investigator with the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery and was a Vermont State Trooper for 18 years prior, where he served as a Trooper / Corporal assigned to patrol, the Executive Protection Unit, and the Office of Professional Development. He has instructed use of force, patrol procedures at the Vermont Police Academy, and served as a drill instructor for the Vermont State Police and was a member of the Vermont State Police Underwater Recovery Team.

Assistant Coach (Jumps/Pole Vault)
Danielle Solomon enters her first year with the Spartan coaching staff as the jumps coach. Solomon spent the last 2 years coaching at Rutland High School where she coached multiple athletes to top finishes and appearances at the Vermont State Meet. Solomon is a Castleton alumnus who was a member of the Spartan Track & Field team as a pole vaulter / sprinter. She is a music teacher at Rutland Middle School where she is also in charge of the drama club and band.

Assistant Coach
Mike Audette took over the men's cross country program in 2021 and began adding oversight of the women's cross country program in 2022. He is also the assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field teams. Prior to joining Castleton, Audette spent 15 years as the head Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach at Rutland High School, where he helped guide several Division I State Meet individual champions and top-ten finishers, as well as several New England Championship qualifiers. As a high school athlete, Audette was the 1999 Vermont Division I Cross Country State Champion and a four-time New England Qualifier in Cross Country at Rutland High School. At the collegiate level, he competed at NCAA Division III Catholic University of America and was a two-time Cross Country individual conference champion and runner of the year (2001-2002) in the Capital Athletic Conference, a three-time All Mason Dixon Conference runner (2001-2003), and the first three-time NCAA Southeast Region Cross Country all-region runner in school history (2001-2003). In college Track, Audette competed in the 1500-10,000m distances and was the 2004 Mason Dixon Conference Indoor and Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor 5000m individual champion. Audette is a high school teacher at Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Rutland.
