Rick Trickett

Biography

One of the longest tenured (52 years) and most accomplished offensive line coaches in the nation, Rick Trickett returned in 2026 for his third stint with the Mountaineers (1976-79, 2001-06) and third as a member of Rodriguez’s staff. He coached with Rodriguez at West Virginia (2001-06) and at Jacksonville State (2022-24). He comes back to West Virginia after serving as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Jacksonville State for the past four seasons. Six players he coached earned all-conference honors, and he assisted Rodriguez with Jax State football’s transition from the FCS ranks to FBS. While Trickett was at Jax State, the Gamecocks won the ASUN championship in year one and the next year, its first year of competing in Conference USA , became the first FBS team in year one to earn and win a bowl. The Gamecocks won the 2024 league championship in year three and have played in three straight bowl games, including winning 17-13 in the 2025 IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl. The Gamecock offense finished No. 5 nationally in rushing in 2022 and had the No. 10-rated scoring offense in the nation. The 2023 team averaged 236.6 rushing yards per game, ranking among the best in the nation, the 2024 team finished No. 3 nationally in rushing, averaging 251.2 yards per game and No. 11 in scoring and the 2025 team averaged 246.7 rushing yards per game, ranking No. 5 nationally.
