Ashland University Men's Basketball

John Ellenwood is Ashland men's basketball's all-time winningest head coach with 275-175 record (.611). A native of Sylvania, Ohio, he began his collegiate career at Lake Superior State before transferring to the College of Wooster, where he became one of the best post players in school history (1996-2000). He scored 1,203 points, holds the NCAC career record in field goal percentage (65%), and was named an All-America in 2000. Wooster advanced to NCAA Division III playoffs all four years he played, reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 1999 and 2000, with the 1999-2000 team undefeated in season and postseason. Before joining Ashland in 2009, Ellenwood served as assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan (2000-03) and Capital (2003-06). He was head coach at NCAA Division III Thomas More (2006-09), where he orchestrated an impressive turnaround, taking a 2-win team to 19-9 in his final season with the first regular season and conference titles in school history and first NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Named PAC Coach of the Year in 2008-09. At Ashland, he has built the program into a consistent postseason contender with over 300 career head-coaching wins (308-223, .580). Holds degrees from Wooster (Psychology/Education, 3.2 GPA), Master of Education from Bowling Green (2004), and MBA from Ashland (2019). Married to Abbi with four children.
