Head Coach
Listen to an interview with Kevin Donner on the "You HERD it Here" podcast (9/24/19): Thirty-two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year Kevin Donner returns for his 21st season at the helm of the Bucknell men’s and women’s cross country and track and field program in 2021-22. During his successful tenure in Lewisburg, Donner has kept the Bison among the elite programs in the East. Donner’s men’s team continued its recent resurgence in 2009-10, winning its first Patriot League Outdoor Championship title in 19 years in a thrilling three-point victory over Army before repeating as team champions the next three seasons. The men also claimed their first indoor league title since 1993 during the 2011-12 season. Donner led the Bucknell women to another Patriot League “Triple Crown” in 2009-10, earning league championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. That excellent season marked the third time in five years that Donner’s women’s squad claimed a trio of titles in the same campaign (2005-06, 2006-07). The Bison also won Patriot League Championships in cross country and indoor track in 2007-08. More recently, Bucknell swept the indoor and outdoor titles with both Patriot League trophies in 2012-13 and 2014-15. The Bison women also claimed an indoor title in the 2018 season in Lewisburg by a razor-thin margin over Army to earn its 18th Patriot League Indoor crown. The Bucknell women have continued their recent dominance, earning another Triple Crown under Donner'

A two-year letterwinner and member of Bucknell Class of 1980, Jim Knight begins his 14th season this spring working with the current Bison steeplechase runners. Much of Knight’s own collegiate success came in the steeplechase as he placed second in 1979 and third in 1980 in the event at the East Coast Conference Championships. Knight also had his share of success on the cross country course. In the fall of 1979, one year after taking 22nd at the ECC Championships, the Vestal, N.Y., native won the individual title at the conference meet besting teammate and second-place finisher Rick Sayre by 18 seconds. Knight went on to finish 31st at the NCAA District Two Championship later that season. Knight currently works at Bucknell as the Senior Associate Director of Energy and Utilities.

Richard Alexander, who is now in his 15th season, returned to Bucknell as an assistant coach in 2010 after completing his own successful student-athlete career as a Bison from 1999-2003. In his current position, Alexander works with Bucknell’s sprinters and hurdlers, and he previously coached the jumpers and multi-event athletes. Alexandra Lea flashed in her freshman season (2024-25) winning Rookie of the Meet at the Patriot League Indoor & Outdoor Championships. Lea won the 200 and 400-meter dashes at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championship, setting the school record in both events and the meet record in the 400-meter. Meghan Quinn flourished under his leadership, breaking nine school records and winning several gold medals at Patriot League Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Alexander’s impact since rejoining the team can be seen most readily by the success of graduates Andrew Powell and Christian Lupica. Powell won the Patriot League title in the heptathlon in 2011 and 2012. He also reclaimed his decathlon title in 2012 and set program records in both multi events. Lupica was the 2014 PL Track Athlete of the Meet after sweeping the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. Lupica has four career Patriot League gold medals and holds seven school records. As a member of the Bucknell track and field team, Alexander was a four-year letterwinner and served as a two-year captain. Ryan Protzman joined the Bucknell track and field coaching staff as throws coach in August 2021 after working as the throws coach at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. During his tenure, Protzman has turned the Bucknell throws group into the program's headlining attraction, winning multiple Patriot League gold medals, consistently sending throwers to the NCAA National Championships and NCAA East First Round, and rewriting the school's record book. As of 2025-26, Protzman has an active student-athlete in 11 of the 12 throwing events in the school's record book - a testament to his coaching and recruiting. Evelyn Bliss has been his marquee star. The javelin thrower has already scribbled her name into the upper echelon of all-time Bucknell student-athletes. Bliss is a two-time All-American, a two-time NCAA National Championships and East First Round qualifier, a two-time Patriot League champion, and most importantly won the 2025 US National Championship in the women's javelin throw. Bliss hasn't retained her talents to the domestic arena. She has become an international star, competing as the youngest thrower at the World Athletics Championships in 2025. She entered seeded in the 30s and finished 19th. Under his watchful eye, javelin thrower Brylee Tereska has become a three-time NCAA East First Round qualifier and should in 2026 become the program's first fourth time qualifier. Shot put star Wade Shomper won the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Championship in the event and
