Head Coach
One of the most successful wrestlers in Indiana University history, Angel Escobedo became the eighth head coach in program history on April 6, 2018. Coach Escobedo is in his eighth season as the head coach of the Hoosiers in 2025-26. The 2024-25 season marked yet another year of continual growth. Indiana went 8-5 in the dual schedule, marking three consecutive years of 7-plus dual wins. The Hoosiers also went 3-5 in the Big Ten for the third consecutive season. The Hoosiers spent the majority of the season in the national rankings, topping out at No. 21 by FloWrestling and the NWCA. Escobedo had a career-best showing as head coach at the 2025 Big Ten Championships, putting four wrestlers on the podium for a second consecutive year and the best team finish since 2017 (11th place with 33.0 points). At NCAAs, Indiana had six qualifiers for the second consecutive season, and they turned in their best NCAA showing since 2011 (T-24th place with 18.5 points). Each qualifier won at least one match with five of the six winning at least two. DJ Washington earned All-American status, taking eighth place at 184 lbs., the program’s first All-American since 2017. Angelo Rini and Gabe Sollars each reached the Blood Round. Tyler Lillard won a 165 lbs. title at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, the program’s first Midlands champion since 2014. Assistant Coach
After serving two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach, Red was promoted to a full-time assistant coach in July 2024. The 2025-26 season will be Red’s fourth total year on Indiana’s staff. Red assisted Indiana in elevating the program’s standards in 2024-25. The team went 8-5 in duals with a 3-5 Big Ten record and had six NCAA qualifiers for the second consecutive year. At Big Tens and NCAAs the team turned in 11th and tied for 24th place finishes. He helped DJ Washington become an All-American at 184 lbs. as he took eighth place. In 2023-24, he helped the program elevate its status yet again. The team enjoyed a 7-5 dual record, a 3-5 Big Ten mark, two ranked dual victories, six NCAA qualifiers (the most for the program since 2010) and a 26th place tie at NCAAs (the best finish since 2016). His work with the lower to middleweights proved to be particularly fruitful, as five of Indiana’s six NCAA qualifiers were from 133-165 lbs. The 2022-23 season marks C.J. Red's first on the Indiana Wrestling coaching staff. In year one, Red helped Indiana's program make big strides. The Hoosiers' 8-5 record in 2022-23 was the team's best since 2016-17, that included three Big Ten wins and three ranked victories, as well. Red provided valuable experience of wrestling at the highest stage and in recent time, after just finishing his collegiate career in March 2022. Associate Head Coach
Dixon returned to Indiana and his role as Indiana associate head coach in September 2022. He works primarily with the heavyweight wrestlers in the room while also heading the team's efforts in scheduling, administration and logistical planning. Dixon enters his fourth season back as the team’s associate head coach in 2025-26. Dixon helped Indiana raise the bar again in 2024-25. The team went 8-5 in duals with a 3-5 Big Ten record and had six NCAA qualifiers for the second consecutive year. At Big Tens and NCAAs the team turned in 11th and tied for 24th place finishes. He helped DJ Washington become an All-American at 184 lbs. as he took eighth place. 2023-24 was another great season for the Hoosiers with Dixon playing a major role in the success. The team enjoyed a 7-5 dual record, a 3-5 Big Ten mark, two ranked dual victories, six NCAA qualifiers (the most for the program since 2010) and a 26th place tie at NCAAs (the best finish since 2016). His work with heavyweight Nick Willham led him to a career-best season where he earned a spot at NCAAs for the first time in his career. In just his first year back on Indiana's staff, Dixon's impact was quite noticable in the 2022-23 season. The team enjoyed its best season since 2016-17, posting an 8-5 dual record with three Big Ten victories and three ranked wins, as well. His work with the heavyweight wrestlers led to a career-best season for Jacob Bullock (285 lbs.) who qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in his
