Benson became the ninth head coach in program history will embark on his fourth season on the sidelines in 2026. In his first three seasons as head coach, Benson has guided the Friars to three consecutive BIG EAST Tournament appearances (2023-25). In 2025, Benson guided Providence to its third consecutive BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal appearance leading the team to a third-place finish and claimed the No. 3 seed in the conference. Benson coached a program record five players to All-BIG EAST honors. The honorees included Ryan Bell and Richie Joseph to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Dan Donahue, Jack Horrigan and Quinn McConnaughey were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Bell capped his career in Benson’s offense as the program’s all-time scoring leader with 236 career points (68 goals / 168 assists) and all-time assist leader (168). He also set Providence’s single-season points record (66) and assist record (49). Bell also closed his career tied for 18th in all-time assists amongst NCAA Division I players (168). In 2025 he was named a USILA Division I All-American Honorable Mention marking just the second Friar all-time to be named a USILA Division I All-American in multiple seasons. B

Kennedy comes to Friartown after spending the 2022 season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Maryland, working alongside Benson. The Terps completed the season with an 18-0 record and claimed the NCAA title. Prior to joining the staff at Maryland, Kennedy served in the same capacity at Hartford during the 2021 campaign. He also served as Head Coach at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. and an Assistant Coach at Limestone University. While at Limestone, Carroll was named USILA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015. During his five seasons with the Saints, he helped guide the program to three NCAA Division II National Championships and an overall record of 92-12. Kennedy played lacrosse at the collegiate level for four years, beginning his career at Monroe Community College (2007-08) before transferring to Adelphi University (2009-10). He was a Second Team All-Region selection at Monroe Community College. Upon his arrival to Adelphi, he helped guide his squad to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Kennedy capped off his career by earning a spot on the NE-10 Spring All-Conference Team in 2010. After graduation, Kennedy returned to his alma mater to kick off his college coaching career. As an assistant coach, he helped lead Adelphi to a 14-3 overall record, a No. 4 national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals. Brodersen joins Benson’s staff after spending the last 12 seasons at Bryant University, including the previous eight seasons as the program’s Associate Head Coach. The Bulldogs enjoyed unparalleled success during Brodersen’s tenure, including six Northeast Conference titles, five NCAA Tournament appearances and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2014. In 2021, Bryant posted their best start in NCAA Division I program history and went on to win its sixth NEC title. Brodersen’s impact was felt on the defensive side of the ball as he coached and mentored Bryant’s top-three defensive long poles – all of whom earned All-NEC honors. Bryant also excelled at the “X” under Brodersen’s watch as he helped develop some impressive talent year after year for the Bulldogs. The string of consistency at the faceoff “X” began with three-time All-American and three-time NEC Player of the Year Kevin Massa. Guided by Brodersen, Mass became the school’s first-ever First Team All-American. Under Brodersen's tutelage, the Bulldogs' man-down defense has also been a mainstay in the national rankings, spending four-straight seasons ranked in the country's top-10 from 2012-15. Bryant's entire team defense has ranked 12th or better in five of the last eight seasons with two years placing fifth in the nation (2014, 2017). Shawn Ewert began as assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Providnece College in August of 2023. Ewert’s main responsibilities include coaching the offense alongside Head Coach Bobby Benson. Before arriving at Providence, Ewert spent two seasons at Florida Southern, where he served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator. During his tenure, he helped guide Florida Southern to a 25-11 record and two Sunshine State Conference Championship game appearances. Prior to joining the staff at Florida Southern he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bucknell University for two seasons (2020-21) and a graduate assistant for Jacksonville University in 2019. Ewert was a standout lacrosse player at Jacksonville. He finished his career ranked in the program's top five in career games started, career points and career assists. Additionally, he was named the team's 2016 Offensive MVP after setting the program's single-season assist record, with 23. Ewert earned his bachelor's degree in sports business, with a minor in coaching, from Jacksonville in 2018. He went on to earn a master's degrees in sports management and business administration in 2019. Ewert was born and raised in Dublin Ohio, and now resides in Providence.
