During the 2022-23 season, Steele spent time as the lead assistant for Temple as she helped the squad to six of the team’s Top 20 scores in school history, including the third and fourth highest overall scores. With her primary apparatus being the beam, Steele helped the Cherry and White to two of the program’s Top 10 scores. Seven of her student-athletes matched or set career highs on the beam with two Owls earning All-EAGL on beam under her tutelage. Prior to her arrival at Temple, Steele served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Maryland, assisting with all four events with her primary focus being on the floor and vault. She helped Maryland earn a No. 20 national ranking during the season, post the second through fifth highest point totals in program history, and have one of its gymnasts earn All-American honors for the first time since 2013. While coaching in College Park, Steele was also an Optional Coach at Hill's Gymnastics Training Center in Maryland, known for training some of the best gymnasts on the East Coast. Assistant Gymnastics Coach
Miller joined Temple in August of 2023 after a decorated gymnastics career at the University Nebraska, Division I coaching experience with stops at the University of Penn and Pitt, and various club gymnastics stops in Pennsylvania and the New Jersey area. To conclude the 2026 EAGL Championships, Miller was named an EAGL Assistant Coach of the year. As the team's vault coach, she has guided the Owls to significant success, including two athletes ranking in the top five in the conference on vault. Miller also coached four athletes to EAGL All-Tournament Team honors. The Hatboro, Pa. native recently has coached at the club level with Precision Gymnastics, Silvia's Gymnastics, and Liberty Bell Athletics where she's assisted in the collegiate recruiting process. Miller's teaching success has guided some of her former gymnasts to collegiate rosters, including West Virginia, Ursinus, Bridgeport, Ball State, and Bowling Green. As a Division I assistant coach, Miller's most recent stop was across town at the University of Pennsylvania from 2015-2019. In five seasons, the Quakers earned six on the All-ECAC First Team and five on the second team. In 2019, the Quakers earned their highest team score (195.075) since the 2012 season. Miller also coached the ECAC and Ivy Classic Bars Champion (2016), ECAC and Ivy Classic Vault Champion (2017), and the 2018 and the 2019 ECAC Bars Champion. Assistant Athletic Trainer (GYM, WROW)
Ryan Larkin joined the Temple Athletics staff as an assistant athletic trainer in January 2022. In August of 2024 she earned her Doctor of Athletic Training from Temple University, and February of 2025 Larkin was promoted to the associate athletic trainer. She works primarily with the women’s gymnastics and women’s rowing. Larkin came to Temple from Tulane University, where she spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer working with the football program. She earned her master's degree in homeland security and emergency management from Tulane University in 2019. While completing requirements for her master's Larkin worked for Tulane University football and women’s tennis programs. Prior to enrolling at Tulane University, Larkin served as an athletic training intern at University of Denver where she worked directly with the women’s soccer program and assisted with various sports coverages; women’s gymnastics, men’s ice hockey and both men’s and women’s tennis. Larkin has been a board-certified athletic trainer since 2016 and has held a Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine license since 2022. She is a member of both the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society.

Assistant Coach / Recruiting Coordinator
To conclude the 2026 EAGL Championships, Shugart was named an EAGL Assistant Coach of the year. As the team's uneven bars coach, he has helped develop a young lineup while instilling confidence throughout the group. Under Shugart's guidance, two Owls earned EAGL All-Tournament Team honors. PHILADELPHIA - On Wednesday, the new Temple gymnastics head coach Hilary Steele announced the hiring of Joel Shugart as a new assistant coach. "I am very excited to welcome Joel to Temple Gymnastics," said Steele. "Joel's energy, and enthusiasm really stood out from the beginning. From our first conversation, it was clear he wanted to be a part of Temple Gymnastics and the future of our program. He has extensive gymnastics knowledge and has built many great relationships throughout the sport that will help elevate our program. Joel is the perfect addition to our coaching staff, and we look forward to achieving the goals we have for this program." He joins Steele's coaching staff as the second assistant coach hired this month, after Brittany Miller joined the staff on August 10. The Iowa native got his start in the gymnastics coaching profession in 2012 with the Hawaiian Island Twisters (HIITS) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
