At Texas Tech... 2 National Championships (2019 outdoor, 2024 indoor) 4 NCAA Champions 15 First Team All-Americans 9 Big 12 Champions 3 Big 12 Cross Country Championships Jon Murray is entering his 20th season with Texas Tech at the start of the 2024-25 season. A three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, the distance running program at Texas Tech has reached a pinnacle among the Big 12 while consistently contending on the national level. During the 2023 cross country season, Murray's three newcomers in Juliet Cherubet, Anastasia Chepkorir and Gideon Kiplimo, all found success, making it to the NCAA Championships as Cherubet finished as an All-American (top-40). The 2024 indoor/outdoor season saw freshman Ernest Cheruiyot win the Big 12 10k indoor title as he would go on to finish fourth outdoors. Cherubet would place her names all over the Tech record book in the 1500m and 5k, as she would finish as an All-American (fifth) by season's end in the 5k. She was the Big 12 outdoor 1500m champion, while placing second in the 5k. The 2021 cross country season saw the development of Halena Rahmaan reach new heights as the Texas transfer registered a personal best time in each of the regular season meeting leading up to the conference meet. During 2017, Murray coached three-time Big 12 Champion Benard Keter. Keter picked up his first championship crown at the conference cross country championship at Tech’s home course in Lubbock. On Aug. 11, 2023, Kittley and Texas Tech agreed to a new seven-year deal. The 2024-25 season under Kittley was highlighted with the Red Raiders bringing home four Big 12 titles, including the women's team first pair of conference track and field titles. The men's side won their third-straight Big 12 indoor title scoring 130 points - a 40-point margin over second place OSU. Meanwhile, the women's team scored 113,5 points, a 41.5-point margin over BYU. Transitioning to the outdoor period, the men's team claimed a 36-point margin win over BYU scoring 136 points for the Big 12 title, while the women tallied a 14.5-point win over BYU scoring 127 points. At the NCAA Indoor championships, the men's team placed 8th scoring 22 points, highlighted by the 4x400 team placing 2nd and Malachi Snow finishing 3rd in the 60m hurdles. The women placed 10th with all their points coming from jumps and throws. Temitope Adeshina won the high jump as Tamiah Washington took 2nd in the triple jump.
