A 2026 inductee into the Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee Hall of Fame, McMillan ranks as the University's all-time winningest basketball coach while sitting fifth in Ohio Valley Conference history (men's or women's basketball). Overall, the Skyhawks have won 10 Ohio Valley Conference titles during his 17 seasons at UT Martin – including six regular season titles and four tournament crowns. The Skyhawks reached the postseason in six consecutive seasons and 10 campaigns overall while reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2024 along with earning a bid to the Women’s NIT in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020 (canceled) and 2021. Associate Head Coach
Jasmine Newsome returns to UT Martin as associate head coach for the 2023-24 season in what will be her seventh campaign as a member of the Skyhawk coaching staff. A 2019 UT Martin Hall of Fame inductee, Newsome has helped lead the Skyhawks to six Ohio Valley Conference regular season championships, four OVC Basketball Championship titles and eight postseason berths as both a player and coach. Newsome returns to the Skyhawks after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri. During her tenure with the Redhawks, Newsome oversaw the development of All-OVC first team honoree Jaliyah Green (8.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 37 assists), four OVC Freshman of the Week selections and one OVC Newcomer of the Week. Prior to her time with the Redhawks, Newsome served as an assistant coach at her alma mater for six seasons. In her coaching stint the Skyhawks won three OVC regular season titles during the 2015-16, 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons while also boasting four 20-win seasons. UT Martin also qualified for the postseason four times from 2015-2021 with berths in the Women’s NIT in 2016, 2018, 2020 (canceled) and 2021. Over the course of her career with the Skyhawks, she has worked with eight All-OVC selections in Ashton Feldhaus, Haley Howard, Chelsey Perry, Emanye Robertson, Kendall Spray, Myah Taylor, Maddie Waldrop and Dasia Young. Assistant Coach
Maddie (Waldrop) Spencer is in her second season as an assistant coach at her alma mater. Tasked with scouting and post play, Spencer oversaw the breakout freshman campaign of Sharnecce Currie-Jelks who went on to be named OVC Freshman of the Year while garnering All-OVC first team honors in 2022-23. Currie-Jelks averaged 15.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while being named OVC Freshman of the Week a program-record nine times. Spencer joined the Skyhawks after previously serving as the head girls’ basketball coach at Calloway County High School during the 2021-22 season. During her debut season she posted an 11-16 record while finishing as the 4th District runner-up with the Lady Lakers. Prior to her coaching career, Spencer was a two-time Preseason All-OVC performer while being tabbed to the All-OVC first team in 2019-20 and OVC Basketball Championship All-Tournament team in 2020-21. Along with helping the Skyhawks to back-to-back OVC regular season championship as a junior and senior, she left UT Martin as the 17th member of the program’s 1,000-point club while ranking in the top-10 in school history in rebounds (825, third) and blocks (89, sixth). Spencer provided a dominant post presence for the Skyhawks while annually ranking amongst OVC leaders in rebounding, blocks and minutes per game. Director of Operations
Stacie Evans enters her 14th season with the women’s basketball program and eighth year as the Director of Operations. Evans transitions from her position as the Academic Support Services Coordinator in the UT Martin Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to move up a seat on the bench after serving as the team’s academic coach while assisting with team travel operations for the previous five seasons. During her tenure with the program, the Skyhawks have won four Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championships, appeared in four NCAA Tournaments, tallied six OVC regular season championships and earned five bids to the Women’s NIT. The Skyhawks have also registered nine 20-win seasons while featuring 17 All-OVC first team performers and a pair of Associated Press All-Americans. Evans is no stranger to head coach Kevin McMillan with their history dating back to her high school career. She spent her senior year as a student-athlete under McMillan in his first season at Westview High School. Evans, a Martin native, graduated from UT Martin in 2004, earning a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance with a concentration in sports management.
