Tracy Chao

Biography

Tracy Chao made her debut as the head coach of the Black Knights in the shortened 2021 spring season leading the Cadets to a record of 4-1, opening her reign with a four-game win streak. In her first full season at the helm, Army had a record of 7-9-3 and finished the 2021 fall season at the Patriot League semifinals. In 2022 she led the Black Knights to a 9-4-7 record and won the regular season Patriot League championship. She then guided the Black Knights to back to back regular season titles after going 9-6-3 in the 2023 regular season, winning Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. In her fourth season at the helm in 2024, Chao helped lead the Black Knights to their second consecutive 10-win season. In the 2025 season, the Black Knights achieved historical success with 14 total wins and earned eight all Patriot League selections. She helped guide the Black Knights to their first Patriot League Tournament victory since 2011 and the first NCAA berth in 14 years. Chao came to the banks of the Hudson after spending four seasons as the head coach of Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she boasts 15 years of coaching experience at the Division I, Division II and professional ranks. She is a 2003 graduate of Wake Forest University where she was a four-year women's soccer letter-winner and was the team's most valuable player in 2000. At College of Charleston, she spent five seasons as assistant and associate head coach. She also served as a
