Brennan Bechard is in his 14th season with Kansas men’s basketball and is the director of scouting. He served as the director of basketball operations from 2013 until 2019. Bechard joined the Kansas basketball staff as a graduate student manager in August 2009 and was named assistant director of basketball operations in summer 2011. As a staff member, Bechard has been a part of 10 Big 12 regular-season championships, five Big 12 Tournament titles, seven NCAA Tournament Sweet 16s, five Elite Eights, two Final Fours and one NCAA National Championship. An invited walk-on who lettered three seasons at KU from 2007-09, Bechard saw action in 35 games and started his final home game in Allen Fieldhouse against Texas. The guard appeared in five postseason contests for KU. In his three seasons at KU as a player, Bechard earned three championship rings. He was a member of the 2008 NCAA National Championship team, three Big 12 regular-season title squads and two Big 12 Championship title teams. Additionally, Kansas advanced to two NCAA Elite Eights (2007, 2008), three Sweet 16s and one Final Four with Bechard wearing the Crimson and Blue. Bechard came to Kansas from Barton County Community College where he played for the 2005-06 season. Kansas great Jacque Vaughn, a former All-American, whose No. 11 jersey hangs in the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse, was named assistant coach for his alma mater in May 2025. Vaughn, who served as an NBA head coach for five-plus seasons with the Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets, is the second-ever former NBA head coach to join the KU coaching staff, joining Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown. Vaughn brings more than 15 years of NBA coaching experience back to his alma mater and has coached NBA All-Stars Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Victor Oladipo and Ben Simmons and former Jayhawks Markieff Morris and Jalen Wilson. Vaughn played four seasons at Kansas from 1993-94 until 1996-97, leaving his mark as one of the greatest point guards in program history. He concluded his career as KU's and the Big Eight Conference's all-time assists leader with 804 assists, which currently ranks third at KU. The Los Angeles, California native earned second-team All-American honors his senior year under coach Roy Williams. Vaughn was a two-time Academic All-American First Team selection in 1996 and 1997 and was the 1997 Academic All-American of the Year. Entering his 12th season on the Kansas staff, Jeremy Case was promoted to associate head coach on October 14, 2025. He was named assistant coach in August 2021 after the former Kansas guard rejoined the KU staff as video coordinator in August 2016. Case served as assistant coach in the interim role from April 2021 until August 2021. In May 2026, 247Sports.com ranked Case the No. 8 Basketball Recruiter in NCAA D1. With Case on staff, Kansas has won one NCAA National Championship in 2022, five Big 12 regular-season championships and one Big 12 Tournament title. Additionally, KU has advanced to three NCAA Tournament Sweet 16s, two NCAA Elite Eights and one Final Fours during Case’s staff tenure. Dooley came back to Kansas as an assistant coach after four seasons as head coach at East Carolina from 2018-19 to 2021-22. Following his first KU stint, Dooley went to Florida Gulf Coast for five seasons from 2013-14 to 2017-18, where he guided the Eagles to three Atlantic Sun Conference titles, five postseason appearances, including the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Tournaments. Dooley amassed a 114-58 record at FGCU. In 13 seasons as a head coach, Dooley is a combined 215-177, which includes four seasons at East Carolina from 1995-96 to 1998-99. Prior to coming to KU in 2003-04, Dooley was at Wyoming, where he served one season as an assistant coach for the Cowboys in 2002-03. Kurtis Townsend joined the Kansas staff in summer 2004 and has been on the KU sidelines for 21 seasons. Townsend is the longest tenured assistant coach in Kansas men’s basketball history. Since his arrival in Lawrence, Townsend has been a part of the KU program which has won two national championships, reached three NCAA Tournament title games, three Final Fours, seven NCAA Tournament Elite Eights and nine NCAA Sweet 16s. KU has won an NCAA record 13-consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles (2005-17), 16 overall, and eight conference tournament crowns with Townsend on the sidelines. Also, while at Kansas, Townsend has coached 13 NBA Draft Lottery selections, 31 NBA draftees and more than 80 All-Big 12 Jayhawks. Following the 2023-24 season, Townsend was inducted into the Class of 2024 A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame. Recognized as a top assistant by many national organizations, Townsend played a major role in recruiting KU’s NBA draftees Josh Jackson, Andrew Wiggins, Ben McLemore, Brandon Rush, Darrell Arthur, Julian Wright, Josh Selby and 2010 Consensus All-America First Team selection Sherron Collins.
