Head Coach
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Andrew Derrick, who led Gonzaga to four-straight WCC Championships and a top 20 national ranking in four of the last five seasons, has been named the third head coach in Kansas Rowing history, Director of Athletics Travis Goff announced on June 27, 2025. Derrick, a three-time WCC Coach of the Year, signed a five-year contract that will go through the 2030 season. Derrick comes to Lawrence after five years at Gonzaga that were filled with championships, accolades and national success. Derrick has also served as the head coach at Seattle Pacific and Central Oklahoma and has spent time as an assistant coach at Oklahoma and UCF. Derrick has also reached the pinnacle of the sport as a student-athlete, earning a National Championship with the University of Washington in 2001 and finishing as a National Champion Runner-Up twice. He also represented the United States on the international stage, competing at the U-23 World Championships in 2001. In his five seasons at Gonzaga, Derrick led his squad to four-straight WCC championships and a second-place conference finish this past season. Under Derrick's direction, Gonzaga – from 2021-2024 – won four straight WCC titles, 10 of 12 individual event championships, totaled a conference win-loss record of 127-5 in NCAA events and finished in the top 20 at the NCAA championships each year, including tying the program's second-best mark of 17th in 2024. Assistant Sports Performance Coach (WTEN, WGOLF, ROW)
Ally Ginkens joined Kansas Athletics and Kansas Team Health in October of 2021. She is an Assistant Sports Performance Coach with direct responsibilities implementing the strength and conditioning programs for women’s tennis, women’s golf, and rowing. Prior to coming to KU, Ginkens was at Hastings College where she was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant for almost two years. She worked with women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and shotgun. She also assisted with the football team and helped oversee ten or more interns. Ginkens spent the summer of 2021 interning for Creighton University strength and conditioning, assisting with women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and both men’s and women’s soccer. Ginkens, the Mullen, Nebraska native played volleyball at Hastings College from 2016-19 and was a team captain her senior year. Her freshman year Hastings College won the NAIA National Championship and finished within the sweet 16 her sophomore and junior seasons. In her undergraduate, Ginkens double majored in exercise science and recreation management, graduating in 2020. She is expected to graduate with her master’s in teaching in May of 2022. Additionally, she is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) from which she is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and is United States Weightlifting (USA-W) level 1 certified.
