Head Coach
Nate Lie – pronounced LEE – was named the fourth head coach in Kansas soccer history on Dec. 4, 2023. Lie recently completed his second season leading the program in 2025. In both of his seasons at Kansas, Lie has led the program to the NCAA Tournament. The 2025 season was a historic one as the Jayhawks made it to their third Sweet 16 in school history and finished the season with a 16-6-3 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in Big 12 play. Kansas played in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in school history and in back-to-back seasons for the third time ever. The Jayhawks set new single-season records in goals (51), corner kicks (172), and points (154), while having the second most assists in a season (52). The 172 corner kicks were fourth most in the nation, the 52 assists were tied for the 11th most in the country, the 154 points were 12th most nationally and the 51 goals were tied for 14th most around the country. The 16 wins were also the fourth most in school history. At the end of the year, Kansas finished No. 10 in RPI and ranked No. 13 in the final United Soccer Coaches poll. With a total of 19 wins away from Lawrence (road or neutral) in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Kansas leads the nation in road/neutral wins over the last two years. Director of Operations
Bernie Compton joined the Kansas soccer staff in July 2024. Compton spent her previous nine years working with the women’s soccer program at Bowling Green State. She was named the program's Director of Operations prior to the 2019 season, and helped the Falcons earn Mid-American Conference titles and NCAA Championships appearances in four-straight years from 2018-21. In June 2021, Compton received the Diversity & Inclusion Award at the Ziggys, the athletic department's end-of-year (virtual) awards ceremony. The award is given to just one individual each year. Compton earned that award again at the 2023 Ziggys. Prior to assuming her operations role, Compton spent four years as the sport psychology consultant for the women's soccer program, as well as several other BGSU teams. Compton is still currently a doctoral candidate in leadership studies in the School of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Policy at BGSU. Compton earned a Master of Arts degree from BGSU in 2019 in American Cultural Studies, with a concentration in Sport Psychology. She was a graduate teaching assistant in the fall of 2015, her first semester at BGSU, before becoming an instructor of record. Compton earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2013, with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in sociology.
