Katelin Vandevender

Biography

Former Panther guard Katelin Vandevender (Oney) completed her fourth season with the Panthers as an assistant coach after the 2024-25 season. Vandevender, a native of Cedar Rapids, was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams and started 33 games and averaged 9.7 points per game in 2010-11. In her senior season, she led UNI in scoring with 465 points and helped the Panthers reach the 2012 WBI championship game. Vandevender came to UNI from Cleveland State where she was an assistant coach for three seasons. With her assistance, the Vikings went 14-9 in 2020-21 and won the WBI title. In 2019-20, Cleveland State went 21-11 and advanced to the Horizon League semifinals. It was just the third 20-win season in program history. Before her time in Ohio, she was an assistant for two years at North Dakota. She helped lead UND to a 20-win season and a Big Sky regular season title in 2016-17. In 2018, Vandevender was tabbed as a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 honoree. The award, which recognizes top young coaching talent, honors those that have exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship, professional manner, and professional association involvement. Previously, she spent the 2015-16 season with Division II St. Mary’s University and got her start in collegiate coaching at Division II Wayne State College as a two-year graduate assistant. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in literacy from UNI and received her maste
