Biography

Marty Biagi, a 16-year coaching veteran at the collegiate level, joined Notre Dame’s staff on March 18, 2023 as special teams coordinator, adding the role of Assistant Defensive Backs Coach to his title leading into the 2024 season. Biagi boasts 10 years of special teams coordinator experience, including thrice being named a finalist for the FootballScoop.com Special Teams Coordinator of the Year, and winning the award in 2024. Notre Dame’s special teams unit made its mark in 2024 in all aspects. Notre Dame ranked first nationally (tied) in blocked kicks (6), second in blocked punts (3), and fifth in kickoff return defense (15.61). The Irish wreaked havoc on punt and kick coverage, and freshman DL Bryce Young led the way. The true freshman ranked second in the nation (tied) in blocked kicks with three on the year (two blocked field goals and a blocked punt). He was one of three players in the nation with three or more blocked kicks, and the only freshman. The other two were seniors. Notre Dame’s 73 PATs in 2024 were the most in a season in program history. Biagi mentored K Mitch Jeter and P James Rendell to standout performances, including several game-sealing kicks from Jeter, most notably a 41-yard field goal to seal an Orange Bowl victory and national title spot for the Irish.
