While with Santa Cruz, Carrera designed athlete-specific programs to develop strength, agility and quickness and monitored on-court practices and training sessions. He communicated daily with the performance team and the coaching staff to implement practices to ensure the best performances. He worked closely with the Golden State Warriors staff to provide a consistent and beneficial training system for the athletes which mirrored the parent club's training program. Carrera has also served as a professor of exercise science for the San Diego Community College District since December of 2017. Carrera was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Charlotte Hornets in 2019 and 2020. He served in the same capacity with the New York Knicks for the 2018-19 season.
