Aaron Thompson joined GW as the Director of Player Development in August 2023 and was elevated to Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Thompson moved into an assistant coach role in his second year with the program after serving as the Director of Player Development his first year year. Thompson added on-court coaching and recruiting responsibilities in his new role. In his first year as assistant coach, Thompson helped lead the team to its first 20-win season in a decade, culminating in the program’s first postseason bid in eight seasons with a trip to the College Basketball Crown. GW posted 20 wins in the regular season for the first time since 2015-16 and finished with 21 triumphs on the year, its most in nine years. Sophomore Trey Autry saw marked jumps in his production with the assistance of Thompson in 2024-25. Autry nearly doubled his scoring production to over 10.0 ppg and increased his percentages by at least 3% in field goal, 3-point and free throw shooting. Thompson begins his coaching career following a standout five-year playing career at Butler where he became the Bulldogs’ all-time career assists leader with 566. The Glenn Dale, Md., native also finished his career ranked ninth all-time at Butler with 155 steals and was one of 10 semifinalists for the 2020 Naismith Men’s Defensive Player of the Year Award. Sebastian came to GW after serving as the Director of Coaching Operations for the Washington Wizards from 2016-23, working under head coaches Scott Brooks and Wes Unseld, Jr. and with All-NBA players Russell Westbrook, Bradley Beal and John Wall. In his role, he managed daily operations including team travel, scheduling, internal and external communications and the assignment of players to the team’s G-League affiliate. The Wizards advanced to the playoffs three times during his tenure and posted the franchise’s best regular season record in nearly 40 years. Before moving to the DMV, he was the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Memphis from 2009-16 under Head Coach Josh Pastner. He oversaw the daily operation of the basketball program including practice and travel logistics, internal and external communications, statistical analysis and on-campus recruiting. The Tigers captured three conference titles, made four NCAA Tournament appearances and produced four NBA players during that stretch. Ebersold headed up the support staff at Formula Zero Pro camp and Elite Camp, Damian Lillard’s week-long camp that included 18 NBA players, 20 high school and 20 college players. Prior to being with SIU, Ebersold played Division III basketball at UW-Oshkosh, making the national championship game in 2018. The next season, Oshkosh posted a 29-3 record, a 21-game win streak, and capped it off with a National Championship, winning by an average margin of 15.8 points, an NCAA Division III Record. Ebersold earned the Most Outstanding Teammate Award voted by his teammates.
