Marshall University Men's Soccer

Chris Grassie was named Marshall University’s head men’s soccer coach on Jan. 10, 2017. In 2023, Grassie took Marshall to its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as the team won its most games in a season at 18. He coached players to several awards including Matthew Bell who earned the Sun Belt Conference Player and Offensive Player of the Year awards, Defensive Player of the Year Morris Duggan and Goalkeeper of the Year Gabriel Perrotta. Bell, Duggan and Perrotta were All-Sun Belt First-Team selections with Taimu Okiyoshi being a second-team selection. During the 2022 season, The Herd earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth along with its fourth straight season with double digit wins going 11-4-4. Grassie coached the squad to several awards in the program's first season in the Sun Belt seeing Milo Yosef named the SBC Player and Offensive Player of the Year, Matthew Bell being named SBC Freshman of the Year and Adam Aoumaich being named the league's Newcomer of the Year. Marshall had four all-conference first-team selections with Bell, Yosef, Vinicius Feranades and Gabriel Alves along with a pair of second-team honorees in Aoumaich and Oliver Semmle. In 2021, Marshall won double-digit matches for the third-straight year, program’s longest streak since 1995-98, with 11 more wins. Kerri Francis is in her ninth year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Thundering Herd. She has worked with men’s soccer since 2018 and was a member of the 2020-21 National Championship Staff, the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year for NCAA Division I Men's Soccer and the 2024 NCAA College Cup finalist. Prior to arriving at Marshall, Francis served as the Head Athletic Trainer & Senior Woman Administrator at Bluefield State College in Bluefield, WV for 15 years from 2002-2017. While at BSC, she served as the only certified athletic trainer and covered all 10 NCAA Division II sports at BSC. She also served as the sponsor of the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee. Francis was also a preceptor for athletic training students from Concord University. Francis served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Marshall University from 2000-2001 and received her Master of Science degree in Physical Education. While at Marshall, she served as the graduate assistant with the Huntington High School boys soccer, women’s basketball, and softball teams. Francis, a native of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Marshall University in 1999. While at Marshall, she served as a student athletic trainer with teams including men’s basketball, football, and volleyball. Francis is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and is registered as an Athletic Trainer in West Virginia. She serves on the
